Public Transit (TTC)

The most convenient way to arrive. From Union Station, take the 509 Harbourfront or 510 Spadina streetcar south to the Queens Quay ferry docks stop.

Cycling

Bike Toronto share stations are located nearby. You can bring your own bicycle onto the ferries (except during extreme peak periods when restrictions may apply).

Driving & Parking

Parking near the terminal is extremely limited and expensive. There are paid public lots nearby, but TTC is highly recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a ticket to return?

No. Your ticket purchase at the Jack Layton Terminal covers your return trip. You do not need to show a ticket when boarding a ferry from the islands back to the city.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes, dogs are welcome on the ferries and the islands, provided they are kept on a leash at all times.

Are there food options on the islands?

Yes, there are several restaurants, cafes (like the Island Cafe), and concession stands, particularly near Centreville and Ward's Island. However, many visitors choose to pack a picnic.

Is alcohol permitted?

No. The Toronto Islands are City of Toronto parks. Open alcohol is strictly prohibited outside of licensed restaurant patios.

Peak Season Warning

During summer weekends and holidays, the terminal experiences extreme high volume. Wait times for a ferry can exceed 1 hour between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

Pro Tip: Arrive before 10:00 AM to beat the crowds and enjoy the quiet morning atmosphere.
